CHAPTER ELEVEN
Wednesday, November 17th
IT WAS A sweet relief to come into work instead of sitting at home and puzzling over the impossible case before me. Kyrah found it best to give me the exact same tasks every day so it would require less hand-holding, and I appreciated it immensely. I enjoyed not having to wait for her to assign me a recipe. Being able to come to work, get my supplies, put on my favorite music, and bake, filled my need for order.
I lost myself in the monotony of bread baking for two hours before someone nudged me out of my trance. I turned to see Ambrosia standing beside me with a ridiculous grin on her face.
I pulled my earbud out, unable to stop myself from contracting her smile. âWhatâs up?â
I glanced at Kyrah, who also had stopped working to grin at me. Today she wore a tie-dye shirt that read IDK. I just really like snacks. Which, covered in flour, made me laugh more than it had earlier in the morning. I shifted my gaze back to Ambrosia, who wore a long-sleeved green shirt with the words Bread. Love. Euphoria. stacked down the front in cursive. She was the only one of us with a wardrobe of company shirts, but she was also the only one that worked the front. Not counting the weekend girl that I had only met in passing once.
âThereâs a Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome here to see you.â She waggled her eyebrows as she said it.
âDid you tell him no oneâs interested?â I walked over to the sink and turned the water on with my elbow to wash my hands as she cackled behind me. I was only half joking. In my life, anyone described as tall, dark, and handsome usually meant they were on the receiving end of my sharp eye.
âGirl, you are going to be interested in that fine piece of man meat out there. Someoneâs liable to snatch him up as he waits on your slow self.â
âYou one hundred percent want to go on out there.â Kyrah leaned forward on her counter, stretching out her back as she spoke.
âWho is it?â I asked and crossed my arms to put emphasis on the fact that I did not know if I really wanted to go out there. I mean, I only knew a handful of menâit was not likely I even wanted to talk to the person.
âWho do you think it is?â Kyrah said, still grinning like a schoolgirl.
These two were going to be the death of me. I looked between them both, unsure why they were giddy about some guy coming to see me. I was working on a case, and that was likely to be the real reason they were here. Maybe that meant it was William stopping by to check up on me. I had not actually spoken to him since our first conversation. Did he expect me to have made progress in such a short amount of time?
âOh, stop it.
